The Arts

Visual Arts

Visual Arts is a vibrant and valued part of learning at Moriac Primary School. Our engaging program provides a welcoming and inspiring environment where students are encouraged to explore ideas, take creative risks and build confidence in their artistic abilities. Lessons promote student voice, curiosity and experimentation, fostering the belief that everyone can succeed in the arts.

From Foundation to Grade Six, students embark on a rich journey of discovery, problem-solving and creative exploration that builds both skills and knowledge. They are supported to express themselves, experiment with a wide range of materials and engage in diverse artistic processes. Students also have access to exciting opportunities including local and international competitions, art-focused incursions and excursions, exhibitions and lunchtime art clubs. Learning experiences span drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, digital art, construction and sculpture, while exploring the Elements and Principles of Art.

Our purpose-built art space is well resourced with quality materials and tools, ensuring every student has the opportunity to create and thrive.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts is a dynamic and engaging part of learning at Moriac Primary School, where students participate in weekly sessions that build skills across Music, Dance, Drama and Performance. Through these experiences, students learn new concepts and apply their skills in a range of creative activities including plays, music performances and school productions.

A highlight of our school calendar is our annual Concert Spectacular held at the Geelong Arts Precinct, where students showcase their talents in a professional performance setting. Our Year 5/6 students also take part in an annual production performed at Grovedale Secondary College, providing a wonderful opportunity to collaborate, perform and shine on stage. In addition, students regularly share their learning through performances at school assemblies, building confidence and pride in their achievements.

Music learning is sequential, with students beginning by developing foundational skills in rhythm and voice in the early years, before progressing to class tuition in keyboard, ukulele and guitar in the senior years. Students also have the opportunity to join Glee Club, offering an additional avenue for dance, creativity and self-expression.

Through Performing Arts, students develop important habits of mind that support wellbeing, resilience and collaboration. Participation in the arts nurtures creativity and curiosity, fosters empathy and connection, and encourages students to think critically, solve problems and listen deeply — skills that support them both at school and beyond.
